Synopsis
As an autistic filmmaker, I wanted to create a film detailing our everyday lived-in experiences, sensory and communication needs. I wanted to include the positives, such as our creativity and our ability to think outside the box and see things in a different way.
I also want to educate people, raise awareness and debunk myths and stereotypes.
I asked questions about the positives of autism and focused reconstructions on positive interactions and strategies such as putting on headphones to block out noise.
When planning the film, I decided to base it around interview from a diverse range of people within the autistic community, along with dramatic reconstructions of our everyday experiences, such as a social gathering and interacting in a classroom.
As I strive for better representation, I cast the entire film with actors and interviewees from the autistic community.
